Nooitgedagt (1865 IJlst - 2003 IJlst The Netherlands)

Nooitgedagt is a former factory in IJlst that was best known for its ice skates, which were in fact a by-product. Woodworking tools were the main product line, and wooden toys have also been manufactured for several decades.

Wooden children's toys were made from 1939, just before the start of World War II. During the crisis years it is necessary to make all possible products, so that money can be earned. Due to the rise of competition from the Eastern Bloc countries and the arrival of plastic toys, this department is closed again in 1975.

The factory originated from the attic workshop where Jan Jarigs Nooitgedagt (1840-1920) started making skates and planes in 1865. For more than a hundred years, until the end of the 1990s, Nooitgedagt remained a family business. In 1975 the production of toys was discontinued and a few years later that of ice skates. At the beginning of the 21st century, Nooitgedagt was taken over (retaining its name) and became a branch of a foreign company. A few years later, the parent company closed the site and the name Nooitgedagt is just a memory in IJlst. The old factory buildings were demolished and in 2018 the Nooitgedagt collection has been housed in the Houtstad-IJlst museum and workshop.
