Biography
Dutch photographer Lion Greveraars (Eindhoven, 1967) works under his artistic name John McLion. After a career in graphic design and communications, in 2008 he became the founder of the renowned photo gallery Fotokabinet in The Hague. Graphic is key in his photography, either in the sense of geometric (landscapes) or explicit (his nudes, with perceptible influences from photographers as Sanne Sannes, Gerard Fieret, Nobuyoshi Araki and Terry Richardson). His cityscapes often have parallels with the humorist work of Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt.

His debut as a professional photographer took place with the publication of the photo series "The Meridian of Paris". Later there was creative collaboration with Flemish conceptual artist Valère van Gerreweij, which resulted in his first photo exhibition under the title "Transience", a call against the throw away culture in modern society. Together with Steven Weinberg he worked on a book called "Greenwich, parallels on the Meridian". McLion's photo report from his trip to Ghana was exhibited on various art galleries and the NWO - The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research in The Hague. This work was also published in the magazine Leica Fotografie International (LFI).

In 2005 John McLion, together with Paul Boekhout, undertook an extensive trip through Russia by train. McLion's photo's and travel notes from this journey were brought out as a book (Transsiberië & Kamtsjatka - Trans Siberia & Kamchatka) which was later nominated the honorary title of the Best Travel Book 2006 by the Dutch Association of Travel Publishers.

In 2010 John McLion started publishing the series "Artist's Books". This series aim to share with art lovers and collectors the richness of his private archive of the artist, including negatives, contact sheets, digitals and Polaroids. These "Artist's Books" contain bound chromogenic prints and are published in an edition of 10 copies, individually numbered and signed. Limited edition photo's (chromogenic prints) are published in a size of 40x30 cm or 30x30 cm on 40x50 cm photographic paper, printed at an external photo lab on a Durst Theta Image setter, using laser light on Fuji DPII photographic paper. These C-type prints will be issued in an edition of 5 only.
