Biography
Lieve Prins, born as Maria Godelieve De Geyter, (Lichtervelde, April 14, 1948 - Amsterdam, April 25, 2019) was a Dutch artist, graphic artist, photographer and performance artist of Belgian descent. She lived and worked in the Netherlands since 1966.
Life and work
Prins studied at the Academy of Art and Design St. Joost in Breda (1969) and then at the Film Academy in Amsterdam.
Since 1981, her work has been inspired by color copy machines. She was one of the first to practice this art form, Copy-art or Electrographic, in the Netherlands. She had people lie on the copy machine, sometimes in strange positions. She makes photo collages from the output of the copy machines. For example, she made the work "Tree of Desire" with green-painted bodies on the copy machine. She also made works in which she called the technique "piezography". Her subjects included her daughters and herself. She also used everyday objects in her visual language. Finally, she also used dancers, other visual artists or performers as models.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in New York, California, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Belgium, Finland, Canada and France. In the Netherlands, she has exhibited in the Stedelijk Museum (with an installation in 2011), the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and at the Naarden Photo Festival.
In 2006, a book was published with an overview of her work, entitled "touch".
